Federal Affairs

It is only fitting that our nation's capital lies right in the heart of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. As we work to protect and restore rivers and streams, the decisions made in Washington, D.C. play a major role. From consequential federal policy to vital investments in clean water programs, the success of our work for clean water largely depends on positively influencing legislators to support the rivers and streams that flow into the Chesapeake Bay.

The Coalition actively tracks decisions big and small that impact clean water in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. When necessary, the Coalition organizes sign-on letters to raise our collective voice for policies and investments that impact clean water. And every year, the Coalition gathers members from throughout the watershed on Capitol Hill to meet with their legislators and encourage them to support programs and policies that protect and restore our rivers and streams. Through these programs, we equip and facilitate many of our member organizations to advocate on the federal level, who would otherwise not have the capacity, relationships, or expertise.

Thanks in part to the collaboration and hard work of our members, federal support for Bay restoration is stronger than ever.
