Great News for Clean Water with Appointment of Adam Ortiz to EPA Role
(ANNAPOLIS, MD)—Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced Adam Ortiz as the new Region 3 Administrator. In response, Choose Clean Water Coalition Director Kristin Reilly issued the following statement:
"We congratulate Adam Ortiz on his appointment as the new Regional Administrator for the EPA's Region 3 Office. Protecting and restoring the Chesapeake Bay is one of the highest priorities for EPA Region 3. Ortiz's knowledge, experience, and dedication on clean water as a state and local government official is invaluable to meeting this objective.
"The Choose Clean Water Coalition and many of its members have worked with Ortiz in one or more of his positions as Mayor of Edmonston in Prince George's County; as Director of the Environment for Prince George's County; and in his current position as Director of Montgomery County's Department of Environmental Protection. In these roles, his leadership helped to improve the health and quality of life for the communities he represented. These include his efforts on climate resilience in dealing with flood control; bringing diverse groups of stakeholders to the decision-making table; implementing and promoting large scale green infrastructure construction projects; and prioritizing equity and minority business development.
"The Regional Administrator for the EPA's Region 3 Office plays a critical role in improving the health of the Bay and its rivers and streams. We look forward to working with Ortiz and take the next steps for clean water. There is no time to waste if we are to meet the 2025 deadline to have all pollution reduction practices in place as part of the Bay's restoration effort."
The Choose Clean Water Coalition is an organization that harnesses the collective power of more than 260 local, state, regional, and national groups to advocate for clean rivers and streams in all communities in the Chesapeake region.
