Welcome to CCWC, Leeanna Duong!
My Summer 2024 trip to Bar Harbor, Maine on a foggy, yet lovely, day!
My name is Leeanna Duong (she/her) and I’m thrilled to join Choose Clean Water Coalition as the Communications Intern!
I grew up visiting the Chesapeake Bay every weekend. Although my hometown (Winchester, VA) is roughly two hours from the Bay, my dad was more than willing to make the drive so my family and I could enjoy a whole day of fishing, swimming, and boating. Besides from a childhood full of Bay visits, I’ve always had an affinity to the natural world and its creatures. I always pictured myself all grown up, having a job where I get to help take care of the environment.
As a recent Virginia Tech graduate, I earned my B.A. in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Throughout my time as an undergraduate student, I was able to explore the many facets of journalism such as working on the Collegiate Times, editorial team for Studio Collective, videography and photography projects, and so much more.
I previously worked with a three-year project called Monuments Across Appalachian Virginia as a Communications and Community Engagement Intern. There, I learned the importance in uplifting and giving back to your communities. I had the privilege of working alongside community leaders and groups from Appalachian Virginia to highlight the stories of marginalized and overshadowed populations. I was given many opportunities to expand my communications skills in a meaningful way.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, Pilates, hiking, and listening to all kinds of music!
I’m so excited to begin the next chapter of my life with CCWC. Being able to give back to the watershed means so much to me, and I can’t wait to start such important work!
