Welcoming Kara Siglin!
My name is Kara Siglin (she/her) and I'm excited to be the Choose Clean Water Coalition's new Communications Intern!
I grew up in Washington, D.C. and earned a B.A. in International Relations, History, and Spanish from the Honors College at the University of Maryland, College Park. While at school, I guided backpacking and kayaking trips throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed and was also able to sneak in a semester in Spain! After graduation, I moved down to the Florida Keys to teach marine biology to middle schoolers; I then ferried out to the Channel Islands off the coast of Southern California for a year to learn and teach about the kelp forest. I have most recently worked for a dairy farm on the coast of Maine, where I taught marine and agricultural science, and on a sheep farm in Canterbury, New Zealand, where I tried my best to channel my inner Border Collie.
I am looking forward to writing, photographing, and learning with the Coalition. When not in the office, I can be found running, surfing, baking, or guiding backpacking trips. I am especially interested in the ways that agriculture and climate change intersect, and I can't wait to help protect the values, rivers, and wild places that have given so much to me over the years. I'm thrilled to catch you all in the field this fall!
